Just Be!

My friend Betsy is getting rid of stuff!! She is donating or throwing away items each day of Lent.   For Day 1 she is throwing away one item and Day 2 she is getting rid of 2 items and so on.  In one week, she is down 28 items.  She is finding that this is going to give her a chance to get rid of a lot of stuff very quickly!!  This is her Lenten fast.  She feels if she can control the “stuff” around her she can get a handle on her life.

I applaud Betsy! I bet it feels sooooo good to get rid of things.  She is freeing up space.  She is decluttering.  With less “stuff” around her, she is able to concentrate.

We all have stuff surrounding us…clutter, piles, phones, videos, emails, laundry, dirty dishes, the dog, and the list goes on and on!! These are external clutter.  We also have internal clutter….worry, guilt, lack of forgiveness, shame, greed, jealousy and so on.

This week, I am asking everyone to take 5 to 10 minutes a day and just sit quietly. Get away from everything.   Block out all the distractions.  No music.  No interruptions.  JUST BE!!

After doing this for a few times, maybe you will be able to concentrate on what YOU need, what GOD needs, and NOT what the world needs!!

Mark 1:35

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
