Mission Fun

When I left you last time we had just arrived in League City at Bay Harbour United Methodist Church.  It’s a beautiful church with a great family life center.  The family life center is what we would call home while we were on mission.

Now, I wasn’t expecting the Ritz Carlton or a 5 star hotel, but I was a little surprised to find camping cots to sleep on with 10 women all in the same room!  Let’s just say it was pretty noisy in there, and not just when people were awake!!

The other issue for me is that I am not eating like most other people right now.  I felt very high maintenance!  I know some of you are laughing because you think I am high maintenance.  Tom Carter stop laughing!  I don’t feel that I am that high maintenance, but it did cross my mind then because I did not want to be a bother to anyone!

So out of all of the these uncomfortable situations what became abundantly clear was that none of it mattered!  God called me to travel and help this family!  God called me to go and be part of this team!  What I found was that we each needed each other for different things!  Again, God had a plan!!

  The Team

I know some of you are thinking, why would I ever want to go on a mission trip if it sounds like this?  The answer for me is, because that is what God wants me to do!  And I love doing it and being with people!  The people that were on the team were very different, yet united by a common goal.  We were called to help Miss Georgie and Mr. Charles.  (That’s how you address people in the south.)

  Miss Georgie and Mr. Charles

Following God in these new places can feel a bit crazy, but knowing that God is with you on the journey makes everything ok.  Who knew that I could help hang dry wall and mud the seams?  Not me, but God put the right people in my path who could teach me how to do it.

As I journey through life, I am finding it more and more important to just be!  When I am in those still quiet times and I am living God’s way, the Holy Spirit fills me up constantly.  So when things get a little tough, or I am pushed out of my comfort zone, I know to listen carefully and talk to God a little more.  It keeps me grounded!  What keeps you grounded?  When do you hear God?  What can you thank God for in your life?

Next blog I will post more pictures about the projects that we worked on, but I will leave you with this picture.

The team purchase a Bible for the Teers.  As we left them on the final day we got this picture of Mr. Charles looking through the pages we had personalized.  For me, THIS IS WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT!
