Seek

Matthew 7:7-8

Asking, seeking, knocking

“Ask, and you will receive. Search, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks, receives. Whoever seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door is opened.”

Yesterday, I had the chance to participate in the Escape Game Experience with some of the youth. This was a chance to work with a team to communicate, share knowledge, solve puzzles, and find clues to get the key to escape the room.  We were following in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes.  He had left clues to the crime so we could solve the murder and expose the gang.  At least these were the explanations given by the makers of this experience.

For me, it was a chance to be part of a group of seekers and problem solvers. The kids had to search for clues and solve puzzles, but they also needed to listen to each other.  If the clue didn’t make sense to one, maybe it did to another. They asked questions and made themselves vulnerable with a “crazy” idea.  After all, it might trigger someone else to take the investigation another direction.  Getting stuck, means turning another way.  It was amazing to see the confidence and faith they all had in each other.  They were smiling and laughing at little blunders and slip ups.  After all, it was just a game!

Life and faith is not just a game. It is a chance to seek and solve and ask questions.  It is the chance to surround yourself with people to lift you up, laugh and cry with you, and carry you along the way.  We are all in this faith journey together.  I love being a part of the lives of our youth. They remind me daily how much this faith journey means to them. They aren’t afraid to ask questions. They aren’t afraid to ask for help or even say they disagree. They also have some great insight and a lot to share and teach, too.
