Worship at Sylvania First

Our weekly worship service begins on Sunday mornings at 9:30am and through hymns, prayer, scripture, sacrament and preaching we celebrate the many ways God is at work in our lives and in our community. Most people would call our worship “casual traditional” as we highlight the traditions of our United Methodist heritage while incorporating the voices and gifts of different generations and cultures.

Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month. The elements are prepared and served with current safety protocols in mind. Gluten free and individual elements are offered as you come forward.

Our choir offers musical pieces most Sunday’s September-May and we are blessed with a variety of instrumentalists and vocalists who share their varied gifts throughout the year.

Children are welcome at any of our worship services and we also realize that just like adults, children connect to God in different ways. So, for those who choose to stay in worship we have coloring sheets and activities at the back of the sanctuary. We also offer nursery care for children 3 and under as well as a children’s worship experience for children in preschool- 5th grade who feel more comfortable engaging the stories and themes of the day at a child friendly level. Children can be dropped off in our Children’s church room and will join the congregation after the sermon for prayers and our closing hymn.

We also offer a variety of occasional or monthly worship experiences both in and outside the church in order to connect with our community in new ways.

Intergenerational Worship: 4th Sunday’s at 11am in Common Ground (Beginning October 27): We will come together as families of all shapes and sizes to engage in interactive dialogue, prayer, song and activity. This is a participatory service designed to engage people of all ages and from all backgrounds in our faith development.
